One of the questions I get asked the most is ‘why did I choose hearing care?’. I always say it was just luck, I think most audiologists would agree that it isn’t something they had thought of when they left school, they just fell in to it.
The bigger and more important question for me is ‘WHY do I still practice audiology after 15 years?’. That’s an easy one! The top and bottom of it is that I love helping people. I have always worked around the healthcare industry, training as an optician in my early 20’s. When the opportunity came along to train as an audiologist however I could see something about what they do, something very special.
15 years in to this profession and having worked in roles for high street providers, NHS clinical training, specialist independent providers and leading worldwide manufacturers, I’m still as passionate as I was in the early days.
It’s hard to say which is the best part about it. Maybe it’s inspiring people to take action? Maybe it’s all the cool hearing aid technology I get to play with? Maybe it’s giving hope to people where hope was lost? Maybe it’s seeing someone smile again when they hear sounds for the first time in years?
What I do know is that taking someone on that journey, from start to finish, to better hearing, is one of the most rewarding and fulfilling experiences to be had.
At Bailgate Hearing we’re going to build something that’s not just ear wax removal, tinnitus management or the latest invisible hearing aids. We’re going to make sure you get the best possible experience in helping you to achieve everything you need.
To be successful with hearing aids it’s not just the clinical aspect that’s important. Whilst hearing aids and hearing technology are pretty amazing these days, they are only part of the solution. To have the best chance of hearing well you also need a good understanding of your hearing loss, a hearing professional that is passionate and caring, and most importantly a motivation from YOU to hear better!
When these things come together it is a wonderful experience, for you as well as for me in helping you to get there. That is what makes audiology the best job in the world!
Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me if you have any questions, even if it’s just for an informal chat.
